Jogging is tough on the knees.

Walking at a good clip (but not quite like Ned Flanders) pretty much does the same thing, except getting your wind back.

At least I read that years ago.

Get fitted at a running store where they can recommend a shoe to your foot strike. You might pay more initially, but it's worth it to get the right shoe. The wrong shoe will lead to injuries. Once you find a good shoe, you can buy them cheaper online (Road Runner Sports has a great return policy - 30 days).

New Balance are good for heavier runners with flat feet (stability). I have high arches and run in either Nike Zoom Vomeros or Mizuno Wave Riders

Asics has some good shoes as well, but a good running store will let you hit the treadmill to test them. Don't go by what some 125-lb kid tells you works for him.

KW, what is a running store? Serious question. I'll probably end up going to Dick's or Sports Authority.

Last time I got running sneakers 3-4 yrs ago the kid at Dick's told me I had either high or low arches (don't remember which). I get shin splints after about 5 minutes of running which is the primary reason I don't run more.

Nice assist B Luc. If you get shin splints that quickly, I'd bet the kid at Dick's sold you the wrong type of shoe. You can also try to keep your running off the roads (treadmill/trails) to avoid the shin splints.

2 miles on the treadmill today and 1st legitmate lift in 10 years.

i'd imagine i'll be a hurting puppy tomorrow/wednesday.
