Elaborate if you will.

I don't think channel really matters and laugh when people use that as an excuse. It's easier than ever to find what you're looking for on TV.

I like the concept i just think vs did a shitty job producing it. For example the players had no idea what to do after they got picked they were walking around in circles. There wasnt any personality, probally could of used a hot chick co-host as well.

Crazy to think that guys like eric staal and cam ward were playing in lowell a few years ago yet they had about 100 people at the games. The Spinners get 5000 people every night to watch 18 yo dominicans hit .220. Pariochialism is alive and well.

what does any draft pick do when they get picked? they stand around and take a picture and leave. They interviewed plenty of guys after the selections or pulled out a captain for a quick Q&A.

IMO, i agree that they 'probally' could have used a couple better looking broads taking the suit coats to the back.

Each team should start with one forward, one d and one goalie. They should not allow you to pick teammates before a certain round and the draft should leave the goalies until the end.

This event was about getting the NHL something original, but when the 1st pick is Cam Ward it defeats the purpose.

If you want to be really creative, throw all the sticks (position by position) in a pile at center ice and have some Make-A-Wish kids throw them into 2 piles, then you have Maguire and Pang skate around and call out who the sticks belong to and those guys skate to the blue line so you end up with the two teams sticks in hand facing each other. Roll out a legend to bring the captains together to draw for home team. Finish the event by having the Ice Girls bring out the jerseys to the teams- they throw them on and then it's tracking shot across the arena and cut to video package hyping the game.

Who was the host? I'm not the biggest hockey guy on earth but he didn't seem familiar to me at all. generic MMA type host.

Agree on the players not having a clue about what to do after being picked. Plus the piping of the announcer into the place to get the players to listen to him was torture.

And to be honest, I love the concept. I wish every sport would do it.

TSN produced it, versus just piggybacked their feed.

The concept is great, but I think you need to get through the picks in a relatively quick fashion and have something else for the people in the arena and watching on tv. This would have been perfect to do right before the skills competition. You could then use the breaks in the competition to conduct interviews and get evaluations of the drafted rosters.

James Duthie. He's a TSN guy. Not my favorite.

For the first time with new format, I thought it went pretty good. Obviously can work out some kinks.

KW, how did picking Ward defeat purpose of 'getting something original'? If nothing else, the pick was original (i.e. a goalie first overall).

RA- if you go ESPN or Yahoo, you see "Ward picked 1st in NHL Fantasy Draft". That's not exactly going to grab anyone's attention. Like I said, I like the concept, but I expect there to be major tweaks before next year. It's not the fact that Staal picked a goalie, but he picked his teammate and that = yawn.

I would feel the same way if the NBA stole this and Kobe picked Gasol 1st bypassing Durant, Lebron and Howard.

Granted not having Crosby hurt because the Ovie vs Sid for #1 would have been the obvious storyline. NHL should have split the Sedins right away just to set the tone that this was truly unique. I just feel like the idea has a lot of room for improvement and the chance to be something totally unique (like picking sticks/gloves from a pile or something to that effect).

Today would have been a great day to have all the league's best players playing in the novelty outdoor game since there is nothing else really going on. Instead, they'll continue to bury it on New Year's Day.

Yeah, they really bury it. Highest ratings in 36 years.

Accept it, AY, CFB lost its grip on NYD for good.

Could have been higher today.

CFB has indeed hurt itself on NYD piling EVERYTHING on an ESPN network except one game, not to mention having so many of them at the same time.
