I can't be the only one who's ever had this dilemma, but here goes:
A lady at work is retiring and someone is asking us all to throw 10 bucks into an envelope for her. Obviously a sawbuck is not going to send me into financial chaos, but I see no reason to do it. In the 10+ years I've been here, I can't ever remember the old wretch ever going out of her way to say a kind word to me. She doesn't work in my department. I never remember her attending a work event. On a few occasions she actually stood between my work friend and her cash drawer as if he was going to swipe money out of it. Furthermore, in the time I've been working here I've experienced both the birth of a baby and the death of my mother and don't recall her mentioning either.
I could cough up the 10-spot now and be done with it, but I think I'll hate myself for it. Right now I think I'd rather just symbolically buy myself a 12 pack or my Sweet Irish Rose some flowers with the money. What do you make of me?
