CBS SportsThe non-battle battle between Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez for snaps as Jets quarterback remains, annoyingly, at the epicenter of NFL training camp. And it’s not going to go away, either. Unless, of course, the Jets take the advice of CBS’ Boomer Esiason, speaking on WFAN’s “Boomer and Carlton Show” Monday morning, and “cut Tim Tebow.” ”If I was the Jets you want to know what I would do? I would cut Tim Tebow. I really would” Esiason said. “I’m telling you right now I would, and I’ll tell you why I would: it’s just not in any way, shape or form benefiting this team. I just don’t see how it benefits this team.  ”I just think this whole thing — at least from my perspective right now in relation to who Mark Sanchez is, your starting quarterback — is a major mistake.” It’s a bold statement from Boomer, but not one likely to ever morph into a realistic situation. Rex has Tebow’s back even with training camp struggles. ”I have not been disappointed with Tim at all,” Ryan said Monday, per Manish Mehta of New York Daily News. “Once you go to a live situation, that’s going to elevate his play. It’s not just that he’s throwing the ball, because he is such a weapon when it takes off with it.”

This ain’t gonna happen. But you know what? If it did – it wouldn’t matter. And if it doesn’t – it still doesn’t matter.

Tim Tebow DOESN’T MATTER. Not on the field. Cut him. Keep him. Doesn’t matter. Its gonna take about 6 quarters total for the Rex and the Jets to realize Tim Tebow the quarterback ain’t gonna work out. At the very best – he’s Brad Smith. At the very least – he plays a little special teams and sits on the sidelines like every other back up QB. The Wildcat doesn’t work. The notion that defensive coordinators and head coaches don’t know how to gameplan for it is completely asinine. Even if, in some fantasy world, that were true, they sure as fuck are gonna be prepared for it after 6 goddam months of everyone talking about how the Jets plan on using Tebow.

So I’m sure theres gonna be hoopla from the whole world about Boomer’s comments. Some will agree. Some will disagree. I personally don’t give a shit. Whether he’s right or wrong, the outcome will end up impacting this team zero percent. I’m more worried about the fact that you could put any quarterback alive in there and the guy protecting him is, SOMEHOW, still Wayne Hunter. I’m worried about whoever throwing the ball is gonna have targets that consist of a now-injured malcontent, a cornerback, and 4 dudes that absolutely fucking suck. I’m more worried that the only sure thing the Jets have in the backfield is Shonn Greene, who’s far from a sure thing.

There are so many other issues with this team that matter so much more than Tim Tebow.
