Coughlin And The Giants Still Trying To Play The Underdog Card?

NY Post — If you have studied both teams and decided the Giants should knock off the Patriots on Sunday in Super Bowl XLVI, don’t bother alerting the Giants. They are too busy assuming no one thinks they can. “No, they ain’t picking us, we aren’t getting the picks like we should be,’’ running back Ahmad Bradshaw told The Post yesterday, sounding slightly annoyed. “People don’t figure us to be as good as we are. We’re a great team. We got people in the right positions and we’re clicking at the right time. “We’re going to use it as an insult, and we’re going to play with all our heart, we’re going to give it our all and — I don’t want to put it out there like that — but we’re going to prove everybody wrong who doubts us.’’ None other than Tom Coughlin not only bought into the underdog label but practically demanded it be crazy-glued onto his team, though so many more people give it a solid chance to beat the Patriots than did four years ago. “It’s still us against the world, and that’s how we play that, period,” the coach said. “We’re in here, and I’ve seen a lot of what’s been said in terms of where we are. We’re still the underdogs and we’ve still got a lot to prove.’’
I understand the Giants are technically underdog as far as Vegas is concerned, and I understand what Tom Coughlin is trying to do here, but this “us against the world” shit from the Giants this time around is a joke. I know some of the most conservative Giants fans out there. Guys that always expect to have their hearts broken by Big Blue. And even they are carrying around some quiet confidence. All the talk is whether you’d want Eli or Brady in this game. Whether you’d want Gronk/Welker/Hernandez or Nicks/Cruz/Manningham. How the Giants pass rush is monstrous and the Pats are throwing guys like Julian Edelman back there in their secondary.
And I understand that I’m in New York so I probably hear some skewed talk. But no matter how you cut it, I don’t think anyone is calling the Giants a long-shot, hail mary, need-a-miracle underdog. This game is almost a toss up. I suppose when you went 9-7 and now you’re in the Super Bowl you still get to play that card, but I dunno. Just seems like a bit of a stretch for Big Blue to try to act like its 2007 all over again.
Wow….this must be bizarro Friday, because I actually agree with you KFC.
If the Pats lose, does that make Tom Brady Eli’s bitch? I think it kind of has to, right?
it makes tons of sense. when you don’t believe in yourself you need the extra motivation to run with a future hall of famer QB and soon to be one of the best quarterbacks ever to have played the game. Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana…make some room. oh, btw, he fucks supermodels.
Who cares which motivational tactic they use?
If youd rather have Nicks/Cruz/Manningham/Ballard than Gronk/Hernandez/Welker/Branch youre a fucking idiot.
No tc because it will be the giants defense that wins it again despite Eli trying to throw it away again like 4 years ago. Plus it will still be 3-2 brady with Brady still owning countless records.
I’m as big a Giants fan as there is and I think we can definitely win this game, but I’m by no means certain of it. I hate the Pats and I hate Tom Brady, but I still respect what he’s done and what he’s capable of. Gotta keep our heads on straight. You don’t win Super Bowls by being overconfident.
i lol @ you New Yorkkas. You think you really have a cjance lolol. good luck … 9-7 lol lol how many 9-7 teams ever won the SB? Anyone?? 0. Good luck faggets. Blow me Jew York.
Yea theking keep your head on straight, you can do it!
Is the Giants line going to play the same part as 4 years ago? My thought is no.
The Pats dont have a deep threat like when they had Moss. They have 2 uncover-able TEs. Getting the ball to those 2 and Welker takes a lot less time than trying to find Moss for deep passes. Less time = less sacks.
no way are they “underdogs” this is going to be close as shit
I’m a Pats fan, but thewolfisloose might just be a 12 year old girl based on the way he writes and his ignorance. What does any other 9-7 team have to do with this game? They beat us once in a close game, no reason to believe it won’t be close again. And typing “lol” 5 times in 3 lines is as AOL as it gets.
wow Thewolfisloose you could be one of the dumbest people to ever comment
@Tcsewell, last time i checked there is 20 other players on the field other than Brady & Mannining. This isn’t tennis.
Anyone who denies that this isnt going to be a good game is out of their mind. Yes one team may blow out the other and is totally capable of it. But its going to be a great game. Wouldnt have it any other way
Shut up Cupcake.. The fact is that NO 9-7 team has ever won the SB Means it’s not happening now.
Hey NY.. 37-14 NE. Let me know how that parade is brew’s
Why would that mean that? In what way does any team from years ago have anything to do with Sunday? lolololol
Thewolfisloose…i mean if you are going to go with pointless stats that have no reflection on the game that is to be played sunday. Tom Brady has never beaten Eli Manning in the Super Bowl. Looks like they have no chance thewolfisloose
dudebro, then I guess phil simms, rich gannon, steve young, and roger staubach are fuckin idiots. stick to the lingerie league
Hey bigbluefaithful, suck one, retard. Their receivers may be better, but when you put the TEs in the receiver pool its no contest. You’re just a fucking idiot if you disagree.
Id totally have victor cruz’s 78 yard plays than gronks 10
@dommyboy24 The fact is the stat i pointed out has lasted through the existence of the NFL. Your moronic point about eli beating brady or whatever you say, states one instance out thousands of games. That’s a pretty big difference bro.
And that’s the difference between the 2 offenses. Giants make more big plays, Pats are more meticulous, neither is necessarily more effective.
bigbluefaithful – 32.1ppg vs 24.6ppg, 317 passing ypg vs 295 passing ypg, and 39 passing TDs vs 29 passing TDs say otherwise. those guys obviously arent idiots but numbers like that dont lie
Thewolfisloose. So your saying thousands of games that have been played over time that these players didnt play in matter more than a stat that involves the 2 players. The only stat that matters is 2-1.
And that doesnt even matter. The only game that matters is sundays
EZbreezy, do me a favor and quickly compare the team’s schedules. 1 win against a team above .500. giants played the toughest schedule in the league bar none while the pats played the chlamydia-riddled Afc West
and part of that tough schedule were the Saints and Packers – obviously tough teams to beat but terrible defenses statistically and the NFC West which outside of SF is a fucking joke. please dont make some retarded attempt to say the Gmen Offense had to face a bunch of elite defenses all season….because they didnt
the Giants are extremely lucky to be in the Super Bowl they shouldn’t have even been in the playoffs the Patriots are going to rip them apart and Eli is gunna get crushed that little pussy
Bigblue, the “1 team above .500″ argument is total bullshit. The reason that several of those teams didnt make it to .500 is BECAUSE the Patriots beat them.
From what I have gathered The Giants seem to be the more favorites to win this but at the same time The Pats have gotten some love too. Honestly I won’t be surprised by any outcome of this game. Each team has a great chance to win. I know that sounds cliche and hollow but my mind changes every time I pick a winner. Either way the shit talking has been kept to a minimum this week and both teams are acting like Super Bowl teams should act. Even if The Pats do lose I would be pissed but there are alot worse teams to lose to.
Wolfisloose The Giants have more than a chance to win this game. There is no clear cut favorite.
thewolfisloose you can’t possibly believe that regular season records have anything to do with it at this point. All that matters is how the teams play on Sunday. The Giants went through the 2 best teams in the NFC, plus the Falcons, to get to the superbowl. The game is a toss-up at this point; the Giants have as good a chance as the Pats do to win it.
