(July 21) — Kids these days. Give them the keys to the horse and carriage, and they go wild. Levi Detweiler, a 17-year-old Amish kid from Leon, N.Y., allegedly ran a stop sign in his horse and buggy, leading authorities on a mile-long low-speed chase. Detweiler took a sharp turn too fast and turned the buggy over, rolling it into a ditch, police said. He then got out and fled on foot. It took the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office a week to investigate the incident, which ended with Levi being charged with underage possession of alcohol, reckless endangerment, over-driving an animal, failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
The fuck goes on in upstate New York? Place is like a barren wasteland of debauchery up there. You got weird ass girls like Jenna in Rochester. Like we’re almost at the point where upstate is battling Florida for wackiest people. Ain’t got shit on India though. India has a stranglehold on weird fucking shit forever. But I got to say I’m kind of fascinated by upstate New York’s rapid rise to bizarro world. Seriously are there any upstate Stoolies that can vouch for it up there or should we just secede you and call you New India?
PS- Before anyone tries to nail me on a county-lines technicality I consider upstate to be anywhere 45 minutes away from the city.

I am a lifelong upstate guy from the Albany area and it really depends on where you are. I also feel like Albany and its suburbs have a more downstate feel to them than the rest of upstate NY. I mean trust me, the rural areas in upstate and western NY are full of some weird fucked up people. I have seen my fair share of the Amish, I’m just surprised this guys last name isn’t Miller.
Upstate isn’t a bad place to live either, I mean tomorrow the Saratoga race track opens up and I will be spending the rest of my summer getting drunk, harassing hot girls in big hats and winning money on the ponies.

Had a few buddies who went to school in upstate NY (Cornell and Ithaca) Gotta say that the town of Ithaca was pretty normal. Being a college town I guess it isn’t really a fair comparision to the rest of upstate NY, but it seemd alright to me.

Albany is technically “central” New York. I went to college 1/2 an hour from the Canadian border…that’s upstate.
Also, Albany and Rochester aren’t that bad. Try growing up around Utica…place is a fucking dump.

I’m from Rochester and have lived in NYC for 5 years. The only thing I can conclude about NYC after living being form upstate is that everyone is soft as shit down here. You should seriously check out a Buffalo Bills home game. I have been to college stadiums all over the country and never experienced something quite like it. People are animals with boozing and fighting. The games at the Meadowlands are like a JV girls flag game compared to up there. I think ppl just party harder, do whatever they want, and don’t give a fuck what everyone else thinks. It’s like college 24/7 for your entire life.
