Dude Faces 15 Months In Prison After Gambling $1.5 Million Because Bank Of America Glitch Allowed Him To Take Out Unlimited Cash

ABC News – A Detroit man is facing 15 months in prison after he was able to withdraw unlimited ATM cash from his Bank of America account that only held a few dollars. Ronald Page, 55, took advantage of a bank mistake that placed his account into a “pay all’ status that allowed him to withdraw unlimited overdrafts, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Detroit said. And withdraw he allegedly did: From August 1 to 18 in 2009, Page hit the ATMs, mostly at casinos, and cashiers –for $1,543,104. Page, a retired worker after 30 years at General Motors, had maintained an average balance of about $100 in his account from Dec. 1, 2008 to May 31, 2009, according to his indictment. Between February 2009 and August 2009, his Bank of America account was used primarily for gambling, a court document states, in which he would deposit his winnings and withdraw amounts from $2,000 to $50,000. Then on August 1, because of the bank error, he withdrew $312,000 from ATMs at Greektown Casino in Detroit, then $51,727 the same day from MGM Grand Casino. Finally, on August 18, Bank of America placed a hold on his account when it was overdrawn by over $1.5 million, his indictment states. But the party came to an end August 18, when his attempt to withdraw $52,000 from his account at Greektown Casino was denied. He also went to the Motor City Casino on August 19 and attempted to withdraw $51,400 from his account but was again denied. Bank of America advised him on August 21, 2009 that his account was overdrawn by over $1.5 million and demanded immediate repayment. Page has not repaid Bank of America. Page pled guilty on March 7 to theft of bank funds. His sentencing will take place on June 27.
First there was the dude in trouble for spending 70 grand that ended up in his account, and now this poor son of a bitch. This fucking bullshit where all the sudden everyone has to be a Good Samaritan and basically turn themselves in for getting free money. What kind of fantasy world bullshit is that? Oh the ATM is giving me unlimited money, let me just go call the police! Fuck that. That is just not a reasonable expectation in the world today. Its just not. Its like the slutty chick who gets wasted and wants to fuck and the next morning realizes she fucked up so she cries rape. You fucked up, it ain’t anybody elses fault. And now he’s facing jail time and he’s gotta pay Bank of America back? For sure not. The only thing more ridiculous than an ATM glitch giving a gambling addict millions of dollars for free is Bank of America wanting to get it back. Sorry, BoA. You fucked up. Should have to just chalk that up to a loss and do better next time.

BofA moron – and yeah you should tell the bank, or at least have the sense to know that if you gamble away 1.5 million, someone is going to catch on.
$100 average daily balance? i didn’t know people that poor had bank accounts
allowing someone to overdraw their account isn’t giving away free money. this dude was an idiot. i bet if he had checked his balance it would have told him that he owed the money
15 months? Fuck If I was this guy I’d just start admitting to unsolved murders and shit. Prison has to be better then living in Detroit.
for each $100,000 you get 1 month in jail. There are a lot of poor people that would jump at that chance.
what happens when you withdraw $52k at the atm? like even if you do have that on your balance the atm just spits out 520 hundos? im pretty sure the dispenser cant dish out more than 25 or so bills at a time so you have to wait for like 2 dozen separate dispenses?
for 3 years running I would get a random $5,000 deposit in my brokerage account on the same exact day in November. turns out the bank screwed up some poor dudes IRA account and his annual deposits were going to yours truly.
after year 3 i got nervous after seeing an article like this and told the bank and wired the money back in (less interest and proceeds i made on it). based on their reaction and small reward they gave me I think I could have gotten away with it, but not worth it. definitely a tough sitatuation to be in especially for a gambling addict like this poor fuck.
15 months in jail for $1.5 million? Sign me up.
cool story brick
Wait, a KFC blog where he doesn’t blindly suck the dick of the big banks? What planet am I on?
Fuck that dude, I took out $1k from an atm and my account got shut down, how’s this asshole pulling this stunt off
fuck boa
big fuckin mistake. the dumbass tard did it wrong. take the money and stash it. when bank idiots ask for it, be like, what money? i didnt get anything? lay low and live like you’re a bit poor. they will take you to court and try and pin it on you, but they have no evidence that you have the money. once the case is thrown out of court for lack of evidence, you’re golden! enjoy retirement early!
Yeah istooledonu, except for the thousands of security cameras watching every inch of the casino, or the built in camera in every other ATM. Aside from that, definitely no evidence. Foolproof.
bahahahah istooledonu your a fucking idiot
I haven’t used an ATM since Lehman
so you can plead insanity for killing a man, could you for this? Just say that the ATM told you he was a genie and you were to be granted all this money. Like an Angels in the Outfield defense.
PS, Why does Bank of America have a Pay All function, and how does someone obtain such a domain.
Back in high school, I had one of the cards from 92.3 k-rock (NY) that were used I guess to get discounts at Tower Records or some shit. One night working at the supermarket we discovered that the card reader would recognize it as a debit card and give as much cash back as you wanted.
I took some money but quickly the entire school caught on and I called the station and let them know and they shut it down. Stupidest mistake of my life.
