So if you’re a hockey fan and you’ve even sniffed a social media platform in the past 72 hours, you’re well aware of the whole Rangers’ “Girls Guide To Watching Hockey” fiasco by now.  To make a short story shorter, the team’s official website posted a “fan”-written “article” (pictured here) that was so poorly executed and resoundingly ridiculed that the Rangers pulled it off of the web less than two hours after it went up.  The KO Barstool crowd cried that the article demeaned female sports fans, writing as if the only way that broads could understand hockey is through discount sale similes.  Die-hard puck-sluts freaked the fuck out, furious that an article attempting to bolster their numbers from the most basic of starting points would even be considered for publication on the Rangers’ official website.  The hockey world’s panties were in a proverbial twist over the whole thing.

But my problem with the article wasn’t in the gesture itself.  Trust me, I know how thin the ice you’re skating on is when trying to reach across the isle for the benefit of fringe fans.  No one likes it.   The die-hards gets offended and the target audience has no actual interest.  No, the reason this article sucked so much swamp ass wasn’t because attempting to address the stereotypical chick is a sexist crime.  It sucked because every word of it was terribly written, the instruction was beyond remedial, and it got posted in a forum where only a real hockey fan would find themselves.  I mean, her advice is to know that asking questions while excitement builds is a bad idea?  That learning players’ names will be helpful?  That Henrik Lundqvist is popular?  Ms. Mandil, what you’ve just written… is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read.  At no point in your rambling, incoherent slideshow-style post were you even close to anything that could be considered helpful advice for female hockey fans. Everyone on the internet is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul…

Classy apology, Rangers.  Did you at least make sure Wade Redden’s corpse was cleaned out from beneath the bus before you tossed this chick back under it?  RIP Mirna Mandil’s blogging career, January 25th – January 25th.  @Osgood_StoolNYC
