Yahoo - The New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays are nearing a deal that would send reigning Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey to the Toronto Blue Jays for a package that includes top prospect Travis d’Arnaud, a source close to the negotiations told Yahoo! Sports early Saturday. As the Mets finalized their shopping of Dickey and appeared to settle on the Blue Jays late Friday, the proposed deal grew in size upon Toronto’s willingness to include d’Arnaud, the game’s best catching prospect. While the other players involved could not be confirmed, the source said the teams were in the process of exchanging medical information on the players involved.

What are you people smoking? D’Arnaud is the #1 catching prospect in baseball and the #11 ranked prospect in all of baseball? He’s not “Defense first.” I’d take him alone for Dickey at this point. Throw in Gose the Blue Jays TOP PROSPECT and you have an incredible deal for the Mets.

D’Arnaud is a TOP prospect, one of the best in baseball. He alone makes for a nice haul for Dick. Throw in a couple of lower prospects (Gose is NOT being included, fyi) and probably another body going to TO for the MLB roster and it’s a good trade for both sides. One teams gets a ton of help now, another gets help for the next 6-10 years, in theory.
And for those saying Dickey is a gimmick, how? He’s been a stud for 3 seasons now. A 2.95 ERA and 12+WAR shows he’s more than some gimmick. The question of whether his success can continue in the AL and as he approaches 40 is a valid concern, but saying he’s a gimmick is not right.
