Jim Rome Asks David Stern If NBA Lottery Was Rigged, Stern Replies “Have You Stopped Beating Your Wife Yet?”

So a lot of people are freaking out over this interview. Stern calling out Jim Rome for beating his wife! Jim Rome is a wife beater! In reality Stern was just trying to point out that he didn’t appreciate Rome’s line of questions. By asking someone “Have you stopped beating your wife yet?” whether they answer yes or no, you are admitting to beating your wife at some point. Whether you currently are or you were in the past. Basically Stern trying to call out Rome for assuming the facts before the question and manipulating the interview. Which I would understand if Jim Rome said “Is the lottery still rigged?” But all he said was “Was the fix in?” So at no point did he really imply that it was in the past and he’s asking whether it is still currently fixed. Right? I feel like Stern trying to say Rome was entrapping him with that line of questioning makes him look like the asshole. Because this was more of just a one time question.
By the same token I do think the NBA conspiracy theorists are out of fucking control these days. Every game is rigged, no matter who wins or loses. Every series is rigged, no matter who wins or loses. Every lottery is rigged, no matter who wins or loses. I understand a guy like Jim Rome has gotta ask those questions because thats the prevailing buzz out there in the media world and amongst the fans. But at the end of the day if you genuinely think that every game is rigged like the WWF, you’re just trying to stir the pot. The Patrick Ewing draft was fishy. Tim Donaghy was downright illegal. Guys like Knick Bavetta have track records that are a little too strange to ignore. Superstars and the home teams will always get the benefit of the doubt. But lets pump the brakes with the rigged conspiracy David Stern puppet master bullshit. Its played out.
PS – You can’t call someone out for using cheap tactics and taking shots and then say “I’ve gotta go call someone important like Stephen A Smith.

A+. Every hockey fan who hates basketball (which I don’t get anyway, why do you have to hate baseketball if you loke hockey?) loves to throw out that the games are fixed, the NBA wants every series to go 7 games, the drafts are fixed. Ridiculous. Can you imagine how many people would have to be in on it for that to happen? And no retired guy would ever blow the whistle?
whorefrost…what did Tim Donaghy do? pretty much the definition of blowing the whistle
Lol, Rome took that well…
Stern is the biggest blowhard on the planet. Makes Lebron James look modest.
who was asking the questions? Jim Rome or Pitcher Mike Myers?
Brett Myers. Damnit
A better question is, how did you keep all the niggers (except for players) from attending the game? Seriously, attendance was whiter than Charlie Sheen’s coke.
P.S. How do we accomplish this at all sporting events?
Wow KFC did you attend Fordham Law? You must have to know so much about loaded/leading questions.
whorefrost, I think in the ‘sane disbeliever camp’ the thought is it’s not as much ‘fixed’ as the outcome is ‘managed’ by the league. The refs just have too much influence and the betting line is moved by which refs are working which games. The league places refs on games to move the desired outcome, like refs that have a large ‘home court’ advantage to their long-term record or refs that have predictable bias for teams & players or against others. The league enjoys managing the teams to the finals that have the larger audiences and better story-lines. The OKC market is small, but the storyline and the eyeballs it will garner due to the star match-ups are still pretty huge and the league loves it, loves the ratings. Now for the game its self, the ‘rules’ are very loosely enforced, star players have different sets of rules which everyone agrees on…which really hurts the basic credibility of the game. As for basic rules, can anyone honestly say they have watched 3-4 minutes of an NBA game in the last 5 years where there hasn’t be a travel or a carry without a single call? Watch Rajon Rando bring the ball up court as he saunters along he holds the ball and walks a couple steps carrying the ball all the way to mid-court (does it really matter? No, but it is pretty funny to watch) Truth is, the NBA hardly looks like the game as it’s written-up to be or the game any of us know from ever picking-up a basketball….which all makes us distrust it, hate it, and turn it off.
Rome is the biggest jerkoff in that business
He may be a jerkoff but he handled that well. Stern up to his usual lawyer tricks. Hate that cunt.
5MM, first off thank you for an intelligent counter point without telling me to to fuck off, very un BSS like. But I think your argument could be made about all sports. Does the modern baseball strike zone really go from the armpits to the knees? Does hockey today look like it did 30 years ago? Things evolve. Yet for some reason basketball is the one sport that always draws the complaints that everything is fixed.
The biggest nba coverup ever was MJ retirement. He was gonna get suspended for gambling on basketball games and stern covered it up bc he was the face of bball after magic and bird were gone. Jordan’s pops got killed over gambling debts also. Baseball and space jam was just something to keep him relevant until he returned.. Space jam is a fire movie btw..
The 2002 Western Conference Finals game 6 LA/Sacramento game was fixed and many people have never looked at the NBA the same way since. The 4th quarter of that game was so ridiculous, it just makes me laugh. No referee- like Dick Bavetta- has ever been censured (Tim Donaghy was forced) and that shows clearly that they only do Stern’s bidding.
The referees manipulate games to produce the results that Stern and the league office desires and most times it works. Sometimes it looks pathetic, like in 2002, but they still get what they want. Money is the object, like every business. That said, Stern is a fucking douchebag and incredibly, Rome of all people handled it well.
@peopleschamp FTW. Yes, the NBA would’ve suspended MJ for gambling. So who did he bet on..himself I assume? is that fixing games when you win every year?
I’m pretty sure the NBA wouldn’t forego hundreds of millions in profits and drop the interest in the league from it’s highest point to it’s lowest, just to “show” their cash cow that he did wrong. Michael could’ve bet on the Knicks in 1993 and thrown that series and Stern still wouldn’t have suspended him. You have to be pretty fucking retarded to even suggest that.
@shitstain..i remember that game well. totally rigged and the refs were not even shy about it.
