Newark And Camden Voted 2 Of The 25 Most Peaceful Areas In The Nation

NJ.com – Both the Newark and Camden areas are among the 25 most peaceful metro areas in the country, according to a report produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace in Washington, D.C. The Camden area placed 14th on a list ranking 61 metro areas in the county, while Newark-Union was assigned the No. 24 spot. The Edison-New Brunswick area was named the second most peaceful area in the country, trailing only Cambridge-Newton-Framingham in Massachusetts, the report said. The Metropolitan Peace Index is based on four factors: the homicide rate, violent crime rate, incarceration rate, and police presence. The Seattle area took the third spot. The least peaceful area is metropolitan Detroit, followed by New Orleans, Nashville, Tenn. and Miami. Among the report’s conclusions is that the United State is more peaceful now than at any time in the past 20 years.
Well, the Institute for Economics and Peace can just go ahead and call it a day. Just officially disband. Because this study right here is just flat out wrong. Incorrect. Camden, New Jersey wouldn’t break the top 25 list of most peaceful areas in fucking Afghanistan. Its just makes no sense. Like they nailed it with Detroit and New Orleans but there must have been some mix up with the data from Camden. Somebody switched all the data from Aspen, Colorado or something.
Maybe Camden has just had an absolutely unprecedented stretch of peace. Something unexplainable. Almost like when some no name team from a small conference is undefeated in college hoops. The coaches and the AP have no choice but to rank them in the top 10 even though they know its all smoke and mirrors. And the moment they lose their first game they are plummeting out of the top 25. Maybe thats whats goin on with Camden. This year they’ve had a miracle run of safety and the moment the first murder happens they are joining the ranks of Detroit and New Orleans. Thats the only possible explanation.
You would be safer in downtown Baghdad than Camden or Newark
Camden is peaceful because people are moving the f*ck out of there. So i’m sure the crime dropped because there’s about 1/10 the amount of people living there to kill, rob, rape, etc. I wouldn’t doubt the state buying up all the real estate and moving everyone out. The IE&P needs to do some research the surrounding towns of Camden for the same information. It’s is a literal hell hole. OH and look up Irvington while you’re at it… just another Beirut near Newark.
This is complete bullshit. I was working in Newark the last 2 days (unfortunetly) and I witnessed a massive fight break out in the middle of the street at 5 PM on a fucking Monday. Took the cops over an hour to clear the street. It was right near the Rock. Awful awful place
Why the fuck do they group Cambridge-Newton-Framingham together? Makes no fucking sense, geographically or otherwise.
Why the factors are easily skewed… homicides must be reported,violent crimes must be reported, there are no police left in those areas to respond, with no police there is no incarceration. I feel safer in combat than walking in newark/camden…
newark is a fucking jungle
@clark.curtis spot on. There are multiple robberies (cells, wallets) in Newark every week. But, the description of 5’10 black male between 22-26 y/o with a hooded sweatshirt on doesn’t exactly nail it down to a conviction

Dude it says the Camden and Newark metro areas, not just within the city limits itself. The Newark metro area includes all the Manhattan suburbs on the Jersey side of the river. The Camden metro includes all the Philly burbs on the Jersey side of the river. These are some of safest and richest towns in the country. Obviously there’s crime in the cities, but with the surrounding suburban towns it more than evens out.
