(NEWSER) – With NFL referees locked out since June amid a collective-bargaining dispute, a new batch of officials will be calling the shots in upcoming games—and for the first time, one of them is a woman. Shannon Eastin, who has refereed small-college and high school games, will officiate at a Green Bay Packers vs. San Diego Chargers exhibition game on Thursday, the Los Angeles Times reports. But the replacement refs have had a shaky start: In last night’s Hall of Fame game, an official had to correct himself after announcing the wrong coin toss outcome, the Washington Post notes.

Sure. Yea. Why not? Lets have female referees. Whats next? Let them out of the kitchen? Let them vote?

What a disaster this is gonna be. Doesn’t even matter if its only preseason. Can you imagine not only being a broad referee but also being a replacement ref? Some strikebreaking scab going against the referee movement. Good luck the first time you’re supposed to throw a 15 yard penalty at James Harrison, toots. He’ll rip your face off before that flag hits the ground. And if he doesn’t kill you just wait until Ed Hochuli gets his 24 inch pythons around you for crossing the picket lines. This is real life, sweetheart. This ain’t the movies. You ain’t the Shane Falco of referees. This ain’t the history textbooks. You ain’t Susan B. Anthony. This is the NFL. And the first time you botch a call because you’ve got a heavy flow and you’re emotional on a Sunday afternoon you’re gonna wish you were back in the kitchen making sandwiches.
