People Are Really Still Talking About The Blackhawks “Streaking?”
People are still talking about this “The Blackhawks have at least made it to overtime every game, won a lot of games, but lost a couple in shootouts” streak? I mean I obviously don’t know anything about hockey and don’t care about the NHL but lets all come back to earth with this streak talk. The Blackhawks have won 11 games in a row. They’re on an 11 game win streak. Thats impressive. They’re 21-0-3. Incredible start. But talking about this “streak” is getting out of control. Its not a winning streak, because they’ve lost 3 times. And the only thing they’ve done consecutively is at least make it to overtime. Won a few contests in a game-deciding gimmick, lost a few in a game-deciding gimmick. All you hockey hipsters will tell me I don’t understand the game and I don’t understand how hard it is to earn a point every game and blah blah blah. Bottom line is I’m just not impressed with making it to overtime. I’m not impressed with winning in a shootout. And losing in a shootout is still losing. “Unbeaten in regulation” is just a way to say you’ve lost in other ways. Nobody celebrates extra innings. Nobody celebrates overtime in the NBA or the NFL. But hockey hipsters I guess think their sport is so much harder than everyone else’s that they deserve to be rewarded for being tied after 3 periods? I dunno. Hockey sucks.
This start is like the Bulls start the season they won 72. The were 41-3 around the halfway mark. The Blackhawks are 21-0-3 near the halfway mark where they only play teams in the Western Conference. Definitely the best team in hockey. Just not on any sort of real “streak.”
Regular season streaks are for amateurs; try winning 19 straight playoff series.

This streak is still more impressive than any NBA streak, especially considering the condensed schedule because of the lockout. The NHL is by far a tougher league for a team to win night in and night out consistently. For fucks sake, an 8 seed won the cup last year. None of us will live to see an 8 seed in the NBA win a title the way it is now.

If they had lost any of the three games in OT it’d be a little fishy because years back those were just losses, not points. But they haven’t “lost” a game this year. Granted, if they were like 10-0-14 with 14 shootout losses it would be harder to take seriously. But they’ve taken 45 of 48 points. That is disgusting.

I’m confused as to how an 8 seed winning a Stanley Cup last year means there is less PARITY in the NHL this year. As impressive as this streak is, bigcat said it best, if they don’t win the cup this year, it’s only a nice little stat that Blackhawks fans will remember. But if they win the cup with this streak, it’s an all-time great year. Most NHL fans if given the choice would still bet the field over the Blackhawks for the cup. (I think)
Hockey is harder than any other sport (besides footballs one game a week which can also end in a tie). And is twice as impressive than any recent NBA or MLB (softy sports) streak.

I truly don’t comprehend how people can blatantly ignore the lack of competitive balance the NBA has compared to not only the NHL, but every other professional sport as well. There are legitimately about 5 teams who can win an NBA championship any given year. Especially the last 10 years or so. (Not to mention 99.9% of “experts” are picking MIA and will be right) In any other sport, if you get in, regardless of seeding, you have a shot to win it all. Not in the NBA. I understand that you are not a fan of the sport of hockey but the streak they have going is ridiculous. While you are correct in that they won a few in shootouts as well as there only losses coming in shootouts you fail to even come close to comprehending what they are doing. I understand that they have not faced any eastern conference teams but blame Bettman not them. On top of that while it is a shortened season the games are happening more frequently and they continue to find a way to win. I’m not even a fan of Chicago but it’s called respect for a great feat. It is a minor accomplishment compared to winning the cup but they are most likely unless a major collapse occurs going to win the president’s trophy a hard thing to accomplish. All the questions surrounding the team whether it be goaltending or the star caliber player in Kane actually playing like the star he is have been answered.Chicago is badass and tearing it up something you would go crazy for if it was the knicks, or any other team you like, show respect and shut the fuck up

I agree the shoot out is a joke( 3 on 3 in OT would be better), but comparing extra innings and OT in NBA , to the OT in NHL is Hogshit! MLB is slow, fat and lazy( replacing players), and the NBA( where scoring is much easier) calls to many fouls(flops) and Time Outs. The Physicality levels don’t compare, that’s why boxing and football also have cut off points for the ending.

I’ve played both sports and still play baseball. Hockey is a phenomenal sport, but winning games day in and day out in baseball is a grind.

At 3-4 games per week, hockey is the most physically demanding sport to play. It is also almost universally accepted that ties suck. Combining those two facts, it only makes sense to limit the length of the game by having a short sudden death overtime followed by a shootout. Love it or hate it, a shootout guarantees the game won’t last forever. That’s why it exists during the regular season but not during the playoffs. Now, the reason the points streak is so impressive is because in ANY other sport, they very well may have won those 3 games in normal overtime(s). The limiting factors in this case are the rules of the game, not the skill of the team. And if you want to compare it to the NBA (like Stephen A. Smith did before any commenter on this blog did) all you have to do is look at how many other people have done something before to determine how difficult it is. The Heat aren’t even close to the NBA record (23 teams have done equally well or better in NBA history). The Blackhawks just smashed the NHL record. Finally, the parity of the NHL makes it more competitive than any other sport. Case closed.
