Schefter Suggests Trading Revis For Alex Smith And A 2nd Round Pick
ESPN Morning Take - Here are the most interesting stories Wednesday in the AFC East: ESPN’s Adam Schefter suggests the New York Jets should trade star cornerback Darrelle Revis to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a second-round pick and backup quarterback Alex Smith. Morning take: The trade certainly fills a need for the Jets. Smith could immediately start at quarterback ahead of Mark Sanchez, and the Jets would get a nice draft pick. It seems like good value all around.
Its absolutely fucking sickening that we’re mentioning Alex Smith and Darrelle Revis in the same sentence. One guy is an absolute game changer. A lockdown corner who erases every single team’s #1 receiver in an era where the NFL has done everything they can to make it a passing league for star quarterbacks and wide outs. Cuts the field in half and makes every single opponent alter their offensive game plan. The other guy is a first round bust-turned-game-manager who lost his job the millisecond a dynamic athletic quarterback came around. Basically just an improved version of Mark Sanchez who learned how to limit his turnovers and let his team win despite him.
Whats even more sickening is that the Jets have botched things with Revis so badly, this might be the best they can get. They’ve fucked up negotiations with him before. They’ve spent the past few years underpaying him in the hopes that they can nickel and dime him hoping he’ll stick around. And now that he’s coming off an injury his value is technically at an all time low. They’ll either lose him because he wants to leave or lose him because they’re unwilling to pay him, and everyone knows it. So Mark Sanchez 2.0 is probably the best option. Only problem is that the only reason Alex Smith had success is because he’s surrounded by one of the best teams in the league. Put him on the Jets who are the least talented squad in the NFL and you’ll go right back to the $45 million bust he was before Harbaugh built everything up around him. Another expensive game managing quarterback and one pick is not gonna solve anything for the Jets.
But then again, with the way this situation has been handled, Revis probably won’t garner any sort of package that can make a serious long term impact. Maybe you just bite the bullet, get a slight upgrade at QB, hope you nail a 2nd round pick, and just concede the fact that you totally fucked up a situation with one of the most valuable players in the league. Personally, assuming they aren’t gonna pay him, I’d rather just try to land a boatload of picks and roll the dice.

Alex Smith had the best passer rating in the NFL before he lost his job. Definitely not a bust bro.
0% chance the niners give up a 2nd rd pick for an injured CB that they don’t need.
Jets, LOL……….
That deal will work out great for the niners on two levels… one they get the best CB in the league, two they build Randy Moss’ confidence in practice when he smokes Revis down field on every route!
99% chance that Revis post torn ACL = Nnamdi once he set foot in Philly
The niners probably have the best 22 man roster (starters only, no special teams) in the nfl top to bottom. This is 100% right, he will suck on the jets through no fault of his own, just bc they have one of the worst cores of talent, especially at the skill positions where I think they are the worst in the nfl, worst. Take the picks and roll the dice, and they seriously need a 1st rnd, not a #2. J-E-T-S!!!
Torn ACl’s for CB’s and WR’s are not a good thing. Revis was above average at best beofre the injury. 49ers should stay away from him. Nnamdi Part Deaux.
god i hope this happens more than anything

also can someone please explain to me how the jets are so far over the cap while having at best the 27th most talented roster in the league
JETS should just call it quits and shut their doors….not like the fair weather newyorkers would have any problem jumping ship to the giants.
“Personally, assuming they aren’t gonna pay him, I’d rather just try to land a boatload of picks and roll the dice.” because that always works out for the Jets
Can we get Steven Del Grande’s take on this story?

well you can rule out level two, since Moss is retiring after the game on Sunday
Fireman Ed takes mandingos
One of the better ideas I’ve seen surrounding the Jets. . . only question is, what are the 49′ers going to do with a gimpy corner?
Sounds like a great deal for the Jets if you ask me.
Revis is average now huh
Bc no one comes back from acl’s anymore cough cough Adrian Peterson cough Wes welker cough every single other person who tears their cal now a days fu$&n retards
To the idiot who said Revis was above average at best before the injury… what?
^^^^^ A torn CAL sounds painful. and we’re the fucking retards
the best defense in the NFL getting the best defensive player in the NFL in exchange for their backup qb? can u say DYNASTY
Jets need to trade any player with value for draft picks and get ready for Johnny Football in a couple oh years
DO IT
Extremely retarded with a touch of the gay in fact
land a boatload of picks? Yeah cuz the jets drafts have been so successful lately…
Shocked really that a pillow biter with a name like Bayarealove would know so little about football he would call a pre-injury Revis above average.
Alex Smith is so much better than Sanchez it’s not even funny. At least Smith gives your team a reasonably young, experienced QB, who with the right pieces around him can actually take your team places. Sanchez is unredeemably awful and gets worse every season he stays in the NFL. If I was a Jets fan, I’d be hoping this trade happens, better than drafting Barkley and letting another USC torpedo this franchise, or sitting through an entire year of McElroy hoping a better qb emerges by the 2014 draft
i still can’t look at revis seriously. doesn’t he get mistaken for a black homo erectus too often to go out in public? it looks like he escaped from the prehistoric museum
little schefter needs to go home and stop tweeting bullshit
Revis is the best defensive player in the league.. has the hardest defensive job on the field and if anyone watches the sport, he never has safety help.. no other corner is out on an island on EVERY PLAY like he is.. receivers are the best athletes on the field and for revis to rarely allow an ounce of separation shows how great of an athlete he is.. as for the ACL, adrian peterson just came back from the same injury and he seemed to do pretty good .. only pretty good tho
jaymariotti – thank you, I couldn’t have said it better myself
Colin k is a one dimentional spaz and the 9ers win despite him. I predict he will bust as a offense manager and be used only in some wildcat bullshit soon. Alex was done a shitty deal, harbaugh is a douche. hope the jets get him.
