NYDNThe LAPD has confirmed that Rangers winger Sean Avery was arrested at 1 a.m. Friday for battery on a police officer, and taken to jail.  According to TMZ, a neighbor called police to complain about noise from a party at Avery’s home in the Hollywood Hills. The report said that Avery’s response when police arrived was to shove the officer at his door, then slam it behind him. He reportedly was cooperative after the initial confrontation, but still arrested for his initial action.  The LAPD confirmed that, six hours after the incident, Avery remained in jail. His bail reportedly has been set at $20,000.

The incident is just the latest development in what has been a very busy offseason for Avery, which began with the opening of his second Manhattan restaurant. Avery also made headlines with his very public support of marriage equality in New York State, and at the beginning of this week was the subject of controversy when a Russian outlet misquoted former teammate Alex Frolov as saying that Avery used racial slurs on the ice.

What a shitty week for Sean Avery, eh?  Just when it seemed like the reformed bore would never entertain us tabloid-style again, he goes all in with his NHL career by assaulting an LA cop.  Rodney King salutes you, Sean, as long as you tone down those racist taunts.  And we all know you’re the gayest straight athlete that has ever lived, so stay strong in the LA big house.  I know it’s gonna be tough without your Vogue and Cosmo, but there’s plenty of ass play to go around.  Nighty night, keep your butthole tight!

Aw, Avery, don’t worry.  New York still loves you.  @Osgood_StoolNYC
