NY Post – A 24-year-old gunman killed at least 12 people – including an infant reported to be only three months old – and injured at least 50 in a shocking massacre at a theater just outside Denver, Colorado, authorities said. The madman – who was taken in to custody – was armed with at least three different firearms, was wearing a gas mask, and deployed some kind of smoke canister about 30 minutes into a midnight showing of the new Batman movie “The Dark Knight Rises.” The shooter was identified by ABC news as James Holmes, a 24-year-old white male with a clean record and no apparent links to terrorism. Local and federal officials are searching his home at E. 17th Street and Peoria in Aurora. “Shots fired in the theater. #batman #aurora #colorado” tweeted witness Caitlin at @dingos8myTARDIS who was inside Theater 9. “Oh God, I don’t know what to do. One of my friends is still inside.” Holmes was sitting in the front row of the Century 16 Movie Theaters at the Aurora Town Cente, and about 30 minutes into the show stood up, launched a type of gas canister, and then fired on the crowd. ”Witnesses tell us he released some sort of canister. They heard a hissing sound and some gas emerged and the gunman opened fire,” Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said at a news conference. Moviegoers didn’t know what was happening and some thought the attack was part of the show. Then they saw a silhouette of a person in the smoke at the front of the theater near the screen, pointing a gun at the crowd. ”I told my friend ‘we’ve got to get out of here,’ but then he shot people trying to go out the exits,” Jennifer Seeger told NBC’s “Today.” She said the shooter made his way up the aisle, firing as he went, saying nothing. Officers later found the gunman near a car behind the theater. ”A gas mask, rifle, handgun at least one additional weapon (were) found inside.” The scene inside the multiplex theater was chaos and confusion, witnesses said. Bullets pierced through the wall of the theater and richochetred into other theaters.

ABC - The young man who is in custody after allegedly gunning down 12 people in a mass shooting spree overnight in Aurora, Colorado has been identified as local resident James Holmes, according to federal authorities. Law enforcement officials and witnesses told ABC News Holmes, 24, wore what appeared to be a bullet-proof vest and riot-type mask as he opened fire in a movie theater with three weapons at a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises.” In addition to the 12 deaths, at least 50 people were injured, according to police. A San Diego woman who identified herself as James Holmes’ mother told ABC News she had awoken unaware of the shooting and had not yet been contacted by authorities. She immediately expressed concern that her son may have been involved. ”You have the right person,” she said, apparently speaking on gut instinct. “I need to call the police… I need to fly out to Colorado.”

Obviously this isn’t traditional Barstool material but I’m channeling my inner Will McAvoy and going Newsroom on you to bring you some real shit. Just an absolute tragedy. 12 people dead including an infant and 50 people injured. Just ambushed a crowded theater with a small arsenal. Unbelievable. A dark, loud, crowded theater has gotta be one of the worst places for some shit like this to happen. Had to be pure anarchy once that gas was deployed.

Suffice it to say I’m never going to the movies ever again and I’m never going to Colorado. Too much bad shit happens there.
