We Don’t Need Another Hero
As Yankee fans, we have become accustomed to the dramatic. Dent, Boone, Jeter, Tino, and Brosius have all come up huge in back-against-the-wall situations over the years, but thats not what is needed now.
This team is just flat-out more talented than its opponents. All they need to do is do their job. Phil Hughes needs to nail down leads. Joe Girardi needs to lose Damaso Marte’s phone number. The offense, save for A-Rod and now Melky all of a sudden, needs to be more consistent. And goddamnit, Nick Swisher needs to know that with a 3-2 count in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded against a struggling closer that a BP fastball is coming down the cock, and drive the fucking ball. Last night the team made a great comeback down 4-0, but thats not good enough. When you score six in the 7th to go up two runs, that game needs to be won.
All that being said, the Yankees will still win this series. Sure I am bitter, because I lost money when they didn’t win in 5 (or I would have if betting were legal, of course). But this team is too good to lose back to back games and bow out.
When you win 103 games with the idea, especially in the 2nd half of the season, that when you have a lead going into the 7th inning, you go Hughes to Mo, why suddenly complicate that? I realize that Burnett was only at 80 pitches, but he sat for a while and at least once he gave up the lead off hit you’ve got to pull him. Girardi has to find that medium between under-managing and over-managing. Wouldn’t u rather have had Hughes open the 7th with the bases empty and the bottom of the order up rather than bringing him in against the middle of the order with runners on 2nd and 3rd? That inning bothered the shit out of me and will until the first pitch of game 6.

couldnt agree more; some poor managerial decisions and an awful begining – but hey the angels are a good team secdon best in the AL all season so it not shockign they would grab two 1 run games at home. there is a reason they are here but this series ends in the boogie down saturday and CC will be rested and ready for Wed. Now Tex is awake so this lineup should enjoy being home.
