Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. The New York Knicks ESPN 30 For 30

Sunday – 9PM

This is going to be hands down the best ESPN 30 For 30 they have made thus far. The Reggie Miller/Knicks rivalry was EASILY the most entertaining NBA basketball I have ever watched in my life. And specifically Game 7 of the Easter Conference Finals was the pinnacle of that rivalry. Even though that game and overall the most memorable moments of this clash was Reggie Miller pulling off the impossible to plunge a dagger into the hearts of Knicks fans, it was still dramatic as any sporting events I’ve watched. When they say that this rivalry was true theater they are spot on. Reggie vs Spike. Reggie vs Starks. Ewing, Mason, and Oakley vs Smits and the Davis Brothers. 8 points in 9 seconds. Nobody comes down the middle. Nobody give up lay ups. It was as close to a wrestling match as an NBA game could get.

And I’ll be honest, visions of Reggie Miller taunting the entire Garden used to have Knicks fans waking up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night. But find me one Knickerbocker fan who wouldn’t want that now. Because after 10 straight years of complete irrelevance, any Knick fan would trade for a heart-pounding, edge of your seat, punch-them-in-the-fuckin-face-and-step-on-their-throats Eastern Conference finals game – even if it did end in heroics from the opposition – in exchange for what we’re seeing now.

Poor Knicks fans, highlite of the last 40 years is almost beating a completely forgettable Pacers’ team whose 2nd best player was the Dunking Dutchman.

while i cant wait to watch this 30for30, im not sure i would agree i would want to go back to that ..ever; there is no player i hate more than reggie in any sport! (his gross sister/who may just be reggie in drag is equal)
that ugly 2 handed shot that seemed to never miss still haunts me….but i’ll take our decade of futility for the opportunity to create a team from scratch in the biggest market & with the most money to play with…on the verge of our best decade yet!

“Without Bias” will most definitely be better than the Reggie one.

D Nasty,

Without Bias already aired, even in Europe. Have to agree though that it was the best one thus far. Looking forward to this one, but I have been waiting for the one on Allen Iverson since the show started. Everyone who has seen it beforehand swears it is incredible, so high expectations. Shame with him and alcohol issues, hopefully he gets himself together before pissing his money away. At least he doesn’t have 7 children with 6 different women or something like that.

AI will be good – whatever happened to ‘Beyond the Glory’? some of these seem like remakes of those old shows….

Could not agree more. I pray that 10 years from now I am watching an ESPN 30 for 30 on the Dark Days of the New York Knicks and laughing about the Isiah days.
