Yankee Stadium A Ghost Town, Tigers Say Its Easy To Play There Now

NEW YORK – Gone are mystique and aura, the two temptresses of the Bronx, who blessed old Yankee Stadium with kismet and joy and brilliant baseball. In their stead are apathy and malaise, a couple of hags from Yonkers. They embody the new Yankee Stadium, a sarcophagus if ever there was one: no matter how gorgeous and ornate the outside, it remains filled with lifelessness. No wonder Game 2 of the ALCS featured thousands of empty seats, like Game 1 before it, and like the do-or-die Game 5 of the ALDS, too. New Yorkers understand a fraud when they see it. They pay for expensive seats, drink overpriced beers, buy exorbitant merchandise and fund a $200 million joke, a team that for the second straight game couldn’t score a measly run off the Detroit Tigers’ Nos. 3 and 4 starting pitchers. These Yankees earned every last boo. It wasn’t just the ushers instructed to fill in empty seats so the crowd looked better on TV. The players can tell, too. “This is a very easy place to play now,” Tigers outfielder Quintin Berry said. “Coming from Oakland, the fans there were so rowdy. It was easier to come here.” Oakland Coliseum, where tarps cover the upper deck, more electric than Yankee Stadium. Every other playoff stadium filled to capacity, and Yankee Stadium with entire sections empty, thousands of unsold tickets, even ones as cheap as $15 through resellers.
I don’t know whats more embarrassing – the Yankees play on the field or the fans behavior off of it. Literally the only time Yankees fans are making any noise is boo their own team. Spend all their time hating Arod and bashing Swisher and complaining how they deserve better. Create more problems for their own team than they do for the opposition when the Yanks are at home. Hey you fucking dickheads you’re only making it worse. You and the media are half the problem with this franchise right now.
And Yankees fans will try to spin this however they want. On Friday evening’s game 5 against Baltimore the stadium was legitimately like 60% empty. Of course Yankees fans blamed “having jobs” and “traffic” as the reason for that. Like Nationals Park wasn’t rocking at 1pm for their game. Like people out in Cincinnati weren’t foaming at the mouth during their day games hoping their team could hold off the Giants. Everyone “has jobs.” Every city has “traffic.” How come Yankee fans are the only ones that let that stop them from supporting their team?
Now of course the rhetoric is that the Stadium is too expensive. The fans are so savvy they know this team isn’t a legitimate contender so why should they spend their hard earned money on expensive tickets. Give me a fucking break. Like you have to earn the Yankees fans approval in order for them to show up at the stadium because they’re so special. Take a fucking hike you jerk offs. You couldn’t even get excited for an elimination game in the Division Series. This team had one of the best records in baseball. If you can’t rally for them then you don’t deserve to root for this team. Forget about trying to get more of these fairweather assholes in the door, I wouldn’t even want them in the building. Lock them out. They do nothing but make things easier for the opposition.
So, Yankees fans – spin it however you want. You have jobs. New York City is crowded. The players are overpaid and don’t deserve your support. You can even play the “Yankees fans expectations” card. You’ve been here so often that you’re not even fazed by drama in the divisional rounds. You are so used to Game 7 heroics that Games 1 and 2 are just like midseason contests. Put your big bad arrogant Yankees spin on your pathetic fan base. Bottom line is guys like Quintin fucking Berry likes to come into your building now. You’re the spoiled corporate assholes who fill up half a stadium and spend the whole game hating your own players. The real Yankee Stadium died back in 2008 and with it died Yankees intimidation.

Wow. God I love reading a blog just fucking RIPPING Yankees fans. Awesome.
Yankee fans are pussies.
A+
Spot on.
Bravo KFC. The old Stadium and Shea for that matter used to rock.
This is the reason I don’t want to see one of these state of the art parks here in Boston. It’ll never have the same atmosphere as Fenway.
Cue the what are the mets doing right now comments
As a die hard yankees fan I absolutely agree. It is embarrassing to go from watching games in other cities to ones in NY. Seems like most fans at the games have given up already. I have my fair share of issues with some of the players, however if you are lucky enough to live close enough and have enough money to go to a game then you better fucking be as loud as possible.
Spot on.
it true. as a sox fan i can honestly say you dont have that bad feeling about playing AT new york anymore like i used to when the old stadium was around. that place was rocking. ever since 2008 its like playing at kansas city or something
Also every one of those asshats sitting in the field level seats need to be taken out back and shot. I can’t stand watching those fucking dickheads sit there on their ipads not even bothering to stand up and cheer for anything. Completely kills the atmosphere. The new stadium is beautiful but the separation between the high priced seats and everything else is what kills any feeling of intensity.
As a Yankees fan I completely agree with everything you said.
Somebody ate their blogging Wheaties today. Please just write about shit that you hate. Always.
why would i pay $100 per ticket for upper deck seats and $11 beers when i got a HDTV and free beer in the fridge? btw i went to game 4 vs orioles. looked pretty full. regardless, the game was boring as shit because the yankees cant get a hit.
you wanna know why?? because many Yankee fans aren’t impressed until the World Series…many of us think anything short of winning a title is an awful season…so why waste money watching a team in the ALCS when you don’t think it’s a big deal getting there?? To many Yankee fans the ALCS is about as meaningful as the first spring training game…call me when they’re in the series…it’s the spoiled attitude we’ve developed…just the way it is
Gotta say, your last two post dont work together. You cant say that we as new Yorkers aren;t self-absorbed pretentious assholes when it comes to dating, and then pretend that we’d be as loving and committed to the yankees as any blue-blodded midwestern fan is to say… the brewers or tigers. Pick one angle and yell at it, you can’t yell at both sides of the perception and say its wrong, unless you wanted to say that new yorkers are the same as everyone else in the country … and you know you cant back up that statement.
Every city has two sides. You have the assholes from the back bay that buy season tickets to the sox and you have the imbreds from Southie that sit in the bleachers. I’m sure the same goes for NYC.
rdub926, where do you get your free beer?
The problem is any seat remotly close to the field is upward of $400. Game 3 of the ALDS when Raoul hit the 2 Homeruns, I was standing behind section 117. In the 7th inning with the yankees down 2 runs the stadium was emptying. As these booshey ppl were leaving I asked a guy for his stub so I could sit in a good seat. Guy tells me “yea you can waste your time for an inning on me, tell arod i said fuck you.”
We all know when happen in that game. Just 10 more mins this asshole had to wait to see history, but hey I ain’t complaining, I sat 10 rows from the field from the 7th-12th inning.
You’re an idiot. Ticket prices are outrageous! That’s why they can’t fill the stadium, not because they’re not hitting and all this bullshit. Not only are the ticket prices outrageous but it’s unreal how much it costs to even get into the city, with at least a $12 toll, parking fees, then u can worry about ticket prices.
Everyone takes pictures of how empty it is down in the lower bowl. People have to realize these tickets are 90% bought by corporations who don’t give a fuck, simply because they are the only ones who can afford these tickets. Do you think the NY Yankees organization care if those seats are filled or not? No, because they are getting paid either way.
Small markets like Baltimore and Oakland look cool when they fill up for playoffs and the last 10 regular season games, because these teams usually suck and are shitholes. Nowhere near the amount of corporations buy these tickets for games, which make them much more available at the end of the season this year for them to fill their stadiums, not to mention that these tickets are WAY more reasonably priced.
That being said to go a playoff game for a family for a team that makes the postseason every year and you are looking to spend at least $500 dollars to sit in the nosebleeds. 99% of people CAN’T afford this, doesn’t make them shitty fans, sensible fans? Maybe. But for a team who doesn’t make the playoffs for 15-20 years and they make it this year, you could take a family to the game for half the cost, for what might be a once or twice in a lifetime experience for these people. Make a little more sense yet?
They eat their own, don’t they?
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
So why are their TV ratings such shit for another year? Stop with the excuses. Wake up and leave the bubble. Sorry kids, the Yankees have shitty “fans”.

I love these cry babies complaining about the ticket prices. If you even bothered to look on Stubhub, there are a shit load of tickets going for $60-70 bucks. Granted they are in the upper levels, might be a little below some of you Yankees fans, but my friend has gone to every playoff game so far and has yet to spend over $80 bucks.
As a lifelong Yankee fan, I don’t attend games anymore simply because i am just not a fan of this team that was put together. 200 million dollar payroll for a bunch of underachieving dickheads who shut down in the clutch and leave countless runners on base. They are just not fun to watch anymore. Players like Tino, Bernie, O’neill, were warriors and left everything they had on that field and made it exciting to watch. Every at bat during the playoffs you were on the edge of your seat. It just doesn’t have that same feel anymore
Timmy Chang you nailed it on the head. The good seats are way too much money. How many real fans can spend 600-2500 per ticket to sit close to the field. Yes people list tickets on stubhub for 55-75 dollars, but that does not fill the ridiculously expensive seats.
I use to have season tickets in the old stadium that were $65 dollars a piece and now that comparable seat is $125 a piece. That is almost a 100% increase and they are not legends or champions seats. Those I do not even want to talk about.
Its not the Yankee fans fault. You guys are morons. Ever watch anything but ESPN? The economy is growing slower and slower every quarter, unemployment is extremely high in New York and New Jersey. And the Yankee ticket prices are astronomical.
In regards to payrolls. The Mets had the highest and second highest payrolls for years in the National league (weaker league) and still have not won since 1986. How about the Dodgers, didnt even make the playoffs. Red Sox, last place?
who gives a fuck about the payroll honestly. watching yankees fans and non-yankees fans act like the world is ending is ridiculous
Mets suck
As a yankee fan I agree, every fucking asshole who boos should be ejected from the game. Fucking pricks. I would go to more games if I had the money. Meh
Love the Yankees, grew up in NYC and im ashamed of what i see on tv from these games. Although I do agree completely with timmychang. Those lower seats cost a fortune even for terrible regular season games, nobody can afford those except corporations who buy them all up and then they go unused for 90% of the games. Right now i live and work abroad and if I was home I would have been there in a heartbeat. All my friends went for games 3, 4 and 5 of the Baltimore series and there are plenty of people i know who are willing to spend the money to sit up in the nosebleeds. Whoever is talking about the amount of money it costs to get to Yankee stadium is full of shit. Theres 3 different trains that get there from anywhere in NYC as well as the Metronorth that has a 5$ roundtrip ticket. Food and drink too expensive? Buy a couple beers and shut the fuck up, honestly its a 3-4 hour game and your allowed to bring food in, pack yourself a sandwich or fill up on beer like the rest of us. Its a playoff game and tickets are 60-80 bucks to sit in the upper areas. Add 2-3 beers and you get to go see an ALCS game for around 50 bucks. My brother who has no job and just graduated school managed to scrounge up 130 bucks for two games but somehow the rest of the people in one of the richest cities on earth cant find it within their means? The problem is that there are just too many people in NYC now who 1. Are not from NYC and 2. Do not care about baseball. like Surfintuf said as well, this just isnt the Yankees I grew up on and the new stadium is more of an amusement park then the cathedral it used to be.
ALCS game for 100 bucks*
Every single year I have to hear about the attendance at Yankee stadium as if I give half a fuck of how that affects me as a Yankees fan. And the best part is it comes from mets fans. I can stomach the sawx fans. They’ve beaten us. But fuck mets fans their entire existence is an inferiority complex and a jealousy of the Yankees. Your one moment in the sun was a coked out team and an error that got you a ring. Fuck the mets and fuck their pathetic petty useless fans.
@thedude51, you nailed it bro
From a Yankee fan, you hit it right on the head. Fuck the New Yankee Stadium, filled with a bunch of fakes down near the field who could give a rat’s ass about a baseball game.
Yeah the Dude is right. I hear all the time about Girls and nerds getting Legends seats from their company and they dont know what RBI stands for. Its a joke.
huge yankee fan and i hate myself for saying it but KFC and that lowlife tampa jack are right..i was at games 3 and 5 in the ALDS and i was embarrassed..the crowd is dead..no one is in their seats because you can walk around and see the game from anywhere now..the good seats are filled with people who dont care about the game and just get their free food and drinks..they go because its the cool place to be..said it from day one, never wanted to old stadium to go..but you gota admit the booing is justified..i dont even mind the slumps it happens, they just look like they dont care..someone go nuts and fire this team up..wheres paul o neill when you need him? a rod looks like pedro cerrano after he strikes out.
