DETROITIn the end, it looked and felt a lot like six years ago, when an eerily similar form of Alex Rodriguez drama seemed to drain the energy and focus out of a Yankee team against these same Tigers, with an eerily similar result in an October elimination game. But back then there was a simpler solution going forward: just convince A-Rod to stop fretting so much over the fact that Derek Jeter didn’t want to be his friend. And while A-Rod blamed two weeks of postseason futility at the plate, saying it “sucked the energy out of us,” another player privately made a far more indicting observation: that the ballclub was affected by the hostility from the fans at Yankee Stadium last weekend. “I really think the booing spooked a lot of guys,” the player said. “A lot of guys hadn’t been booed before, and they couldn’t believe how nasty it got in the stands.” Obviously Nick Swisher admitted to being sensitive to such treatment after Game 2, but the player said Swisher was far from alone in his reaction. “A lot of guys were talking about it in the clubhouse,” he said. “I was surprised by how much it bothered them. I really don’t think they ever recovered.”

So throughout the whole playoffs every time I write a blog making fun of Yankees fans for their pathetic “Its-all-about-us” “make-us-happy” mentality I inevitably get comments like “KFC you faggot thats not how Yankee fans feel!” Well here you have it, folks. The proof is in the pudding. The stadium was empty. The boo birds spent the whole post season making fun of their own team. The opposition admitted the Stadium is a friendly place to play now. And now the Yankees themselves are saying how the fans contributed to the disaster performance. So when the media and the opposition and the players themselves are saying the fans behavior was pathetic, then guess what? Overall, generally speaking of course, the fans behavior  is pathetic.

Its exactly like the Penn State situation this year. Remember how Penn State students kept emailing me complaining that I was misrepresenting them by calling them a delusional cult who lived in a fantasy world? Remember how we all agreed they were assholes? That on the whole, Penn State students earned that reputation because the majority of them behaved that way? Well its the same shit here you idiots. Sure, there are handfuls of Yankees fans here and there who didn’t boo. Handfuls of people who didn’t want everyone benched and understands how baseball works and acts rationally. But the reason that the overwhelming theme from the media and players from both teams is that the Yankees fans were spoiled, disloyal crybabies is because thats how the bulk of fans acted. Just open your eyes and realize that perception is reality and accept your fan base for what it is.

PS – My guess is Raul Ibanez said this. The only dude out there who didn’t play like a bitch.
